What is Direct Hair Implantation?

Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) is the most advanced hair transplant technique available. Using a patented implanter tool, we place healthy follicles directly into thinning or bald areas with no scalpels, stitches, or visible scars for a natural, permanent result. How DHI Hair Transplant works

Hair follicles are gently extracted one by one from the donor area and implanted into the recipient area. Each follicle is placed at the perfect angle, depth, and direction to mimic natural growth. Compared to previous generations of hair transplant (FUT, FUE), the DHI process is more precise, minimally invasive yet can achieve maximal density.

A DHI procedure takes one full day, with 5-7 days of downtime and results visible between 6-12 months (18months for crown area). We do not require a full head shave, though this option can improve results and make it easier to keep clean.

Is a DHI Hair Transplant Painful?

DHI is a virtually painless procedure done under local anesthesia. In fact, most patients are surprised by how comfortable it is. Our doctors will provide the pre-and post op medications to keep you comfortable. In the hours and days following the procedure most patients report minimal to no discomfort and can do light activities at home.

How soon after DHI can I see results?

The hairline shape and contours will be seen immediately after the procedure. After that, the hairs will shed as expected for 1-3 months. Significant growth is often seen by 6 months. The full growth will be seen by months 9-12 (slightly longer for the crown area- roughly 12-18 months). Our team will provide close support throughout the growth journey.

Will my DHI Hair transplant look natural?

Yes. The main differences of a DHI hair transplant over FUE and FUT is the use of patented devices which allow full control of the direction, angle and placement of each hair. Unlike other techniques, the procedure is done in full by a doctor, not technicians to ensure the highest standards. A key difference of DHI is the feathering of our hairlines, which allow for high density and the most natural looking results in the industry.

Do I need ongoing treatment after DHI?

In general, DHI hair transplants are designed to be very long lasting, often lifelong. This is because of how the hairs are extracted, handled and implanted using the DHI technique. However, the native hairs are still prone to progressing alopecia, and can be boosted with therapies such as minoxidil, finasteride, platelet mesotherapy treatments and exosomes. How long is the recovery process/downtime after a DHI Hair transplant?

After your procedure, our staff will give you full instructions regarding the post-op protocols used by all DHI clinics. You will have a bandage for just one day, then follow a 3 day spraying protocol with close instructions from the staff. All post op medications and instructions on how to care for the follicles will be provided to you.

It is normal to experience some swelling and scab formation, which will naturally resolve after one week. Most patients can return to computer work (e.g work from home) by the next day. Returning to face-to-face work takes about a week. Light exercise can resume in one week, and should include a hat when outdoors. By two weeks, the skin is fully recovered, and you can return to heavy exercise, swimming, and a haircut.

Will there be any scarring from the DHI hair transplant

Direct Hair Implantation is done using small tools (0.8mm in diameter) meaning that there is usually no visible scar in the extraction or implantation zone. The skin will remain slightly red for a few days but will resolve completely within a few weeks. There is a small risk of folliculitis, but our team will guide you on how to keep the area clean to avoid infection. Overall, A DHI hair transplant can achieve a seamless extraction (no patches, no scar) and implantation (no marks or uneven skin).
